Hi Honey... I'm home!

Lizzy's back from the car doc (Mel's Auto in San Marcos. Recommended) with all kinds of new running gear, brakes, tires etc. to make sure she's safe to drive, since she's nearly as old as the driver. Well, not really...

She's tucked away in her new "pole barn" carport, protected from the rain that's supposed to hit us for Christmas.

The gap to the ground is intentional, to avoid dark corners. There will also be a light inside all night, to help in the ongoing battle with mice who love to build nests and chew on things, like $1100 worth of wiring when I first got my truck.

The carport started with some pressure treated poles, which got another dose of wood preservative before being set in concrete.

The poles actually sit on gravel and are surrounded by concrete. The gravel allows any moisture that gets into the pole to drain out the bottom, to help avoid rot.

Please ignore the mess... all in good time...

  1. Up at our Country Estate in Anza, we and all the locals leave the hoods of our cars open when parked. That really helps discourage the rodents -- and cats -- from taking residence around the engine.
    New carport looks great!

    1. I might have to start doing that. I was doing it with the tractor when they kept building nests on the radiator cap. I do have an electronic rodent repeller under the hood of the TR that also has random flashing white and red lights. I put one of those in the truck after the wire incident, and so far so good.

  2. Looks really nice, and wrapped up just in time for the rain! Looks like if you parked just right, you could park another car next to it...?

    1. She does look kind of small in there, doesn't she? But I think the only other car that might fit in there would be another small sports car. Hmmm... 😊

  3. Very nice! I'm sure she'll be happy under cover. Just got my old pleasure barge back from an audio repair. Can't drive without a radio! Does Lizzy have one?

    1. No radio in a true sportscar. The "exhaust note" is all the music you need.
